Nocturne No. 1 – Erik Satie

Erik Satie’s first nocturne, published in 1919. Here, Satie juxtaposes perfect and augmented fourths to create harmonies distinctive of his compositional style. Whilst technically simple, for a ‘Nocturne’ the phrases can be strangely disjointed, presenting a musical challenge for the performer.
